The 24-year-old Freida Pinto has no formal training as an actor. She did some modeling and hosted a travel show and that’s it. Now with the release of Danny Boyle’s latest movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ in this weekend, she is suddenly a star.
In an interview with Fox Searchlight, director Boyle tells about why he chosePinto among hundreds of girls who auditioned for the role of Latika:
“The first time I saw her audition, I remember thinking ‘I’ll bet that’s her.’ And I had that experience before, with the girl — Kelly McDonald — in Trainspotting, who also came out of nowhere.”
Pinto also told USA Today about being cast:
“When Danny saw my tape for the first time. he had a gut feeling. But since I had no acting experience, they put me through an entire process of auditioning for six months. It was a test for me. It was like going to acting school.”
She also says Charlize Theron, Anthony Hopkins, and Marilyn Monroe are her favorite stars.
The movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ won the People’s Choice Award at Toronto Film festival.
